As the national income is rising, and more and more urbanization is in progress, the demand for more man power in the Green and Gardening sector is increasing and becoming more specialized. In the department of Applied Plant Sciences, our educational goal is to cultivate Florists and Plant managers who are able to contribute to the expansion of horticulture by training them with hands-on practice, and teaching the basic knowledge about the types, characteristics, growth, and maintenance of decorative plants.



Subject Overview
¡à Plant Physiology and Experimentation
This course teaches the principles and theories of plants structural elements and various metabolisms and fosters basic knowledge of plant physiology (nutrition, reproduction and ripening physiology). This class expands students' ability to apply their knowledge to actual plant growth.

¡à Floriculture and Practice
This course teaches the characteristics of floricultural crops and ornamental plants classification. This course trains cultivation and management of floricultural plants used in daily gardening and landscape purposes.

¡à Soil & Fertilizer
As a basic study of overall horticulture courses, this course teaches how to increase productivity of crop cultivation and how to increase the output. This course lectures on the generation, development, features, structure, physical and chemical changes of soil and the characteristics of fertilizers.

¡à Colors and Horticultural Design
Colors and Horticulture Design teaches color contrast, emotion, image and arrangement and design elements and improves students' sense required in flower design.

¡à Horticulture Marketing
Horticulture Marketing teaches distribution processes and sales of horticultural products on a basis of business administration theories.

¡à Green Interior and Practice
Green Interior and Practice presents ornamental plants and management methods, practices horticulture work production, creative horticulture, indoor garden construction, and many other skills using these plants.

¡à Plant Identification
Plant Identification lectures on plant descriptive terminology, names and characteristics of plants and cultivates plant identification abilities required in plant management.

¡à Horticultural Information Processing and Practice
This course cultivates ability of obtaining information regarding production, sales and price trend of horticultural products using the Internet, and improves information process ability required in horticulture industry using Excel.

¡à Basic Floral Design
Basic Floral Design teaches fundamental theories and technique regarding the eastern and western flower arrangement and produces basic works or products from the home. This course also cultivates basic capabilities required in Commercial Floral Design and Event Floral Design.

¡à Pomology and Practice
Pomology and Practice cultivates abilities in pomiculture by providing basic theories and practices such as trimming, ripening, nutrition, prevention of disease and harmful insects, harvesting and storage.

¡à Tissue Culture and Practice
Tissue Culture and Practice teaches fundamental theories and techniques of tissue culture. This course also studies culture techniques for horticultural crops by practice and application to plant physiology, plant breeding and breeding.

¡à Plant Disease Control
Plant Disease Control studies preventive methods of various diseases occurring in ornamental plants such as trees, herbaceous flowers, turf and horticultural plants on a basis of fundamental pathology theories.

¡à Plant Pest Control
Plant Pest Control studies the preventive methods of various diseases occurring in ornamental plants such as trees, herbaceous flowers, turf and horticultural plants on a basis of fundamental noxious insects theories.

¡à Home Pomology and Practice
Home Pomology and Practice teaches pomological plant cultivation and management as based on trimming, watering, fertilization and preventive techniques of disease and harmful garden insects in the garden.

¡à Home Vegetables and Practice
This course cultivates horticultural abilities by lecturing on ecological characteristics of crops, seedlings, fertilization, facility use, growth control chemical application, storage and breeding, as well as basic horticulture theories regarding overall vegetables.

¡à Resources Plants
Resources Plants teaches types, propagation, cultivation, care and applications of wild flowers, edible plants, bonsai and other landscape material plants that are highly valuable.

¡à Bonsai
This course is highly evaluated in the agriculture field. Therefore, academic research and distribution of production technology is required. This course provides basic theories and techniques regarding characteristics of bonsai trees and how to care and display for them.

¡à Commercial Floral Design
Commercial Floral Design trains production techniques of flower products that are usually manufactured in the flower shops; such as bouquets and flower baskets.

¡à Horticultural Computer Practice
Horticultural Computer Practice cultivates administration abilities of homepage and increases presentation capabilities by training Power Point production methods.

¡à Turfgrass Management
Turfgrass Management teaches types, characteristics, preparation and care technique of turfgrass.

¡à Event Floral Design
Event Floral Design trains floral arrangement techniques required for events such as weddings, business openings, funerals and Christmas on the basis of methods learned from previous subjects such as Basic Floral Design and Commercial Floral Design.

¡à Herbs
Herb strains students on the types, characteristics and cultivation of herbs, as well as types of processed goods, the usage of and process methods based on different types of herbs.

¡à Flower Shop Management
Flower Shop Management increases practical business abilities of flower shop management by learning manners, regulations, launching procedures, management strategies, problem resolution and many other skills required in flower shop management.

¡à Flower Processing and Practice
Flower Processing and Practice teaches how to produce compressed flowers (including card and daily goods), dry flowers, and potpourri utilizing various flowers plant material.

¡à Ornamental Horticulture Management and Practice
Ornamental Horticulture Management and Practice builds up cultivation abilities for herbaceous flowers, garden trees, flowering trees and home horticultural plants such as orchids or other ornamental plants.

¡à Botanical Garden Management
Botanical Garden Management cultivates basic knowledge and abilities to operate and manage botanical gardens such as botanical garden interpretation, plant label production, annual management plan preparation, plant exchanging process, event planning.

¡à Environmental Ecology
This course studies the fundamentals of ecology that emphasize environment, ecosystem structure and function, natural and urban ecosystems biogeochemical cycles interactions between human, animal and plants, and environmental pollution.

¡à Management of Flowering Plants
Through lecture and practice, this course studies study the proper care and handling of various ornamental plants and flowers; such as annuals, perennials, bulbs, cacti, foliage plants, orchids and flowering shrubs.

¡à Management of Ornamental Trees
This course teaches the types and characteristics of various trees used for ornamental purposes. It also practices techniques for cultivation and management; such as breeding, pruning, training and fertilization.

¡à Display Flora
This course trains techniques of space coordination and art production with floral design elements on the basis of previous terms, such as Basic Floral Design, Commercial Floral Design and Event Floral Design.

¡à Gardening
This course fosters the ability to use 1 year herbaceous flowers, perennials, bulbous plants, and other flowering plants to create and maintain gardens according to seasons.

¡à Wrapping Art
This course teaches students how to wrap and prepare some of the more commonly distributed floral creations such as bouquets, flower baskets, orchid plants, and other foliage plants in a beautiful yet secure, which are found in flower gardens.

¡à Basic CAD
Students are able to use some of their basic sketching skills they became familiar with during Garden Design to help them in this course. Basic CAD fosters the ability to use computers to aid in the process of creating construction layouts for home and indoor gardens.

¡à Interior Landscaping
Having the understanding of the different kinds and characteristics of foliage plants, this course fosters the ability to construct and create the most suitable indoor gardens for home verandas or big buildings.

¡à Tree Care
This course fosters the ability to restore the health of aesthetic trees that are planted on roads, parks and gardens that have sustained physical damages due to blight, and noxious insects, with the proper diagnosis and prescription.
